From that retail success came a pivotal insight: instead of Mobilia leasing space, why not build a centre and have Mobilia as the anchor tenant. That idea gave birth to Capital Property Development in 1987 — launching a family enterprise that would grow from that one table into eleven commercial centres across Canada, 100% privately owned and directly managed. From our initial investment, we continue to hold all our properties.
When Alexandra Kau took the helm of CPD in 2018, she brought with her the rigour, strategic depth, and transactional sophistication of a distinguished career as a Mergers & Acquisitions partner at Torys LLP in New York — one of Canada’s foremost international law firms.
Under her leadership, CPD has expanded its commercial footprint, launched a residential development division, and entered the U.S. market — including active investments in New Jersey. Her approach is rooted in trusted partnerships, long-term thinking, and a hands-on entrepreneurial spirit.
